    FIU’s Healthcare MBA degree is eligible for American Medical Association PRA Category 1 Credit (25 credits) as a Medically Related Advanced Degree.  Any physician (individual who has completed an MD, DO or equivalent medical degree from another country) is eligible to apply for direct credit activities.

    The fast-track MBA in Healthcare Management can be completed in just 18 months, with courses delivered fully online.     Industry Statistics

    As the large baby-boom population ages and people remain active later in life, the healthcare industry will see an increase in the demand for medical services, including nursing care facility administrators and managers to organize and manage medical information. In 2020, the median
    annual wage of medical and health services managers was $104,280, and employment for these managers is expected to grow by 32 percent by 2029 (Occupational Handbook, Bureau of Labor Statistics).

  • Courses

    Program Curriculum

    The online program curriculum consists of high-level graduate business and healthcare courses specially designed for management professionals. The program is designed for the convenience of the student and at the same time fosters learning at an accelerated rate using a cohort-based model. The program requires successful completion of all core courses with a minimum 3.0 GPA throughout the program, and three mandatory non-credit residencies (120 hours). It is delivered in an 8-week format and students take two courses at a time.

    Accounting for Managers ACG 6026
    This course is a presentation of the nature, techniques and uses of accounting from the perspective of people who manage health services organizations. It covers both financial and management accounting.

    Corporate Finance FIN 6406
    In-depth examination of asset, liability and capital structure management, with emphasis on valuation capital budgeting techniques; risk evaluation; working capital management and methods of short-term, intermediate and long-term financing.
    Prerequisite: ACG 6026 or equivalent.

    Managerial Decision Making in Health Economics MAN 6097
    Managerial health economics focuses on supply and demand of health resources and the constraints that limit them. Government roles in public health also are analyzed.

    Financial Reporting and Analysis ACG 6175
    This course uses a comprehensive treatment of analysis of health services organizations’ financial statements as aid for decision-making; looks at current state of financial reporting practices and impact of published statements on economic systems.
    Prerequisite: ACG 6026 and FIN 6406.

    Management of Healthcare Finance and Reimbursement MAN 6098
    In this course, the history of financing models for health delivery systems are analyzed and evaluated. Reimbursement includes insurance, governmental assistance and the affordable care act.

    Healthcare Fraud and Abuse Law and Regulation BUL 6605
    This course is intended to cover the healthcare fraud and abuse laws and management of issues related to the prosecution and defense in federal and state systems.

    Legal Environment of Business   BUL 6810
    This course studies the importance of law and legal institutions on commerce workings of administrative law, various aspects of employment legislation and other areas of the healthcare environment.

    Management of Healthcare Organizations in the 21st Century MAN 6095
    This course explores the use of evidence-based management for effective planning and decision-making by today’s healthcare managers. Topics include management concepts and theories as they apply to emerging issues in the healthcare industry and the use of data to improve organizational decision-making. 

    Marketing Management in Global Environment  MAR 6805
    This course is the analysis and application of theory and problem solving for marketing management in the healthcare environment. Emphasis will be on the role of marketing in an organization; including planning, management, control and evaluation of marketing efforts.

    Master’s Project in Management MAN 6974
    Each student will conduct a research project on a specific healthcare management problem in a community or institutional setting. Students are expected to demonstrate the application of the theories, concepts and skills acquired during the didactic portion of their graduate healthcare management education.

    Operations Management MAN 6501
    This course covers analysis, design and operations organizational systems. The system approach is used to provide a framework or general model of analysis, to which specific concepts, quantitative techniques and tools can be related.

    Organizational Behavior MAN 6245
    This course examines individual, interpersonal and small group behavior in healthcare organizations. Focus is on behavior, its causes and management interventions to improve organizational effectiveness. Research methods to study organizational behavior are used.

    Organization Information Systems MAN 6830
    This course provides an introduction to information systems and their role in health services organizations from a user's viewpoint; includes surveys and reviews applications of the basic concepts necessary for understanding information systems.

    Strategic Management  MAN 6726
    The use of cases, guest lectures and gaming to integrate the analysis and measurement tools, the functional areas and health policy issues. The objective is to develop skill in broad area of rational decision-making in an administrative context of uncertainty.

    Residency Information 

    Part of what sets FIU's online Healthcare MBA apart from other online programs is that it incorporates three residencies, which add critical educational and networking opportunities for students to interact with classmates, alumni, faculty, and industry professionals. Students are responsible for transportation. However, meals and registration are covered by the program. Lodging is covered by the program for all students residing outside of a 30-mile radius from the residency locations. Students will be trained by a Lean Six Sigma Grand Master Black Belt Instructor to earn their  Lean Six Sigma Yellow and Green Belt designations as a required part of the residencies.

    Global Travel Program

    Advanced Certificate in Global Healthcare Administration (* optional non-credit course)

    The Advanced Certificate in Global Healthcare Administration: International Study Program provides students with broad-based knowledge in global health, and can serve as a valuable job qualification that will help distinguish our students in an increasingly competitive job market. Awarded through the FIU Healthcare MBA program, the certificate is open to any graduate student at FIU or alumnus who participates in any one of the HCMBA travel abroad programs. Unlike other university travel programs, this one is not simply “academic tourism.” Instead, students are provided meaningful site visits in the foreign venue accompanied by a rigorous curriculum. The global travel program is designed to enhance and supplement the core curriculum in the HCMBA program.

    In conferring the certificate, the FIU Healthcare MBA program recognizes a student’s capacity to work in the field of healthcare with an increased global health perspective. To earn the certificate: students must attend a scheduled travel program; attend pre and post trip sessions when scheduled; complete all assigned readings; and submit a final paper or written health policy analysis.

  • Requirements

    To ensure every student’s success, we have certain admissions requirements for each of our programs. To help you through the application process, our enrollment advisors are here to answer your questions and guide you every step of the way.

    Admissions Requirements

    • Two years of professional work experience. Professional experience is determined on a case-by-case basis using a resume and any requested supporting documents. Our admissions committee evaluates an individual's accomplishments, roles, and responsibilities to determine the total number of years of professional experience. FIU considers the individual's managerial responsibilities, role in setting direction and strategy, and his/her role in allocating resources. Normally, professional experience begins at the point of graduation; however, FIU may consider prior work experience based on the type of experience.

    • Four-year US bachelor degree or equivalent from an accredited institution

    • Undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for the last 60 hours of upper division coursework

    • Although the GMAT or GRE is not required for this program, you may be asked to take it to strengthen your admissions package.

    • Good standing with all previously-attended colleges and universities.

    International Students

    • If you earned a bachelor degree in a country whose official language is not English, you must demonstrate English language proficiency by earning a passing score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). TOEFL required minimum score: 550 (paper-based exam) or 80 (internet-based). IELTS required minimum score: 6.5. View a list of TOEFL/IELTS-exempt countries.

    • Online master's programs application ($30). Be sure to select Professional MBA with concentration Healthcare Management Online.

    • Official transcripts from all previously attended universities. A copy of the diploma is needed if the degree is not posted on the transcript. 

    • Current and detailed résumé.

    • Statement of Purpose describing your professional goals and reasons for pursuing this degree at FIU (at least 500 words in length).

    • Two professional letters of recommendation.

    • Florida residents: copies of two (2) documents confirming that you have maintained residence in Florida for the past 12 months. Please view affidavit form and list of acceptable documents here.

    Once a candidate is accepted into FIU's online Healthcare MBA program, he or she will be required to submit a non-refundable $200 admission deposit, which will be applied toward the total program cost. 

    International Students

    • Official TOEFL/IELTS passing scores, if required. When requesting official scores, please refer to FIU Institution code 5206. TOEFL / IELTS scores are valid for two years.

    • Official transcript translation. If official transcripts are not in English, a second copy of the transcript must be requested for translation by an official translation agency. Both the official translation, as well as the original transcripts, must be submitted to FIU.

    • A copy of diploma (an official copy may be requested in certain cases).

  • Tuition

    Pursuing your graduate degree is one of the best investments you can make – one that will open doors to personal and professional opportunities. Our tuition costs represent some of the best value in higher education, and we also offer financial aid support to help you reach your goals.

    The total cost of the online Healthcare MBA program is $59,892.00 for Florida residents and non-Florida residents.

    An admission deposit of $200 is due upon acceptance into the program and is applied toward your tuition.

    Students pay for courses at the beginning of each semester. Every Fall and Spring semester has four courses that are split into two 8-week terms and the Summer semester has two courses completed in one 8-week term. Students pay for a total of four courses at the beginning of each semester.     $10,000 Merit Scholarship

    This $10,000 scholarship was designed to reward individuals who have shown exemplary academic and work achievements.

    To be eligible for the Healthcare MBA Merit Scholarship:

    • Individual must be admitted into the Healthcare MBA program (effective Fall 2020 and after)
    • Possess a minimum undergraduate upper-division GPA of 3.400 and 3 years of professional work experience in healthcare
    • Application must be submitted by the following deadlines:
      • July 15th for Fall semester applicants*
      • December 1st for Spring semester applicants*
    • Applicant must be an incoming student (first semester only). Scholarships will not be prorated if applications are received after the designated deadlines.
