Most university students are not full-time, straight from high school or in any sense “traditional.” Statistics show that more than 50 percent of students are from a lower socio-economic demographic, more than a third take at least one class online, and most work.

FIU understands the changing face of today’s students and their life demands and is addressing these needs through online degree programs in five unique ways.

1. Variety: 100+ Fully Online Degree Programs

With 100 fully online degree programs, students worldwide, have access to pursue a degree wherever they are and the flexibility to schedule their life around their studies.

2. Savings: Affordability Counts

A top concern for university students continues to be how to pay for school. In 2016, FIU developed the Affordability Counts program, an initiative aimed at reducing the cost of textbooks and materials to less than $60 per course. FIU is dedicated to keeping higher education accessible to all and annually awards more than $180 million in financial aid.

3. Relevant: Innovative Degrees

Along with more than 26 STEM fully online programs, FIU’s new online additions include liberal arts bachelor’s degrees, such as the new online economics degree, an English degree in writing and rhetoric, as well as a suite of master’s degrees in hospitality managementFIU continually works hard to make a greater number of degree options available to provide the upward mobility students come to expect when they make the commitment to earning a higher education degree. The university has also initiated several fully online, first-of-their-kind degrees such as the bachelor’s degrees in crime science and the internet of things, as well as the new hospitality management mega events graduate degree.

4. Assistance: Success Coaches

FIU’s fully online students have access to Success Coaches from enrollment to graduation to help stay on track with studies and gain advice on resources such as tutoring and time management.

5. Quality: Top-ranked Online Education

FIU leads the nation in Quality Matters (QM) certified courses. FIU is ranked among America’s top 100 public universities by U.S. News & World Report. That ranking as well as the school’s No. 2 ranking among all Florida’s State University System institutions for student retention, four-year graduation rates and career placement of new graduates, confirms what supporters, alumni and the South Florida business community have long known: FIU competes among the state’s and nation’s elite institutions.
