The Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management is provided fully online and designed for working healthcare professionals who want to enhance their proficiency and breadth of knowledge in the healthcare management field. The objective of this graduate certificate is to provide individuals with a basic understanding of the context and management and reimbursement issues for healthcare organizations. Students can earn their fully online Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management in 10 months.

Courses

The curriculum consists of 15 credits, or five courses, of high-level graduate business and healthcare courses specially designed for management professionals. Courses are delivered in an 8-week format. During every 8 weeks, students complete one course. Students also get a one-week break in-between every 8-week period.

Design and Management of Health Information Systems HSA 6197
This course covers the development and management of health information systems to support managerial decision-making. Emphasis is on the integration of clinical, personnel, and financial data.

Financing and Reimbursement of Health Systems HSA 6176
In this course financing models for health delivery systems are examined. Reimbursement strategy of Medicare, Medicaid and other third party payers are analyzed.

Health Policy and Economics HSA 6155
This course examines the impact of government, private sector and interest groups on priority setting in global health policymaking and national health strategies using basic economics principles.

Management of Healthcare Organizations in the 21st Century MAN 6095
This course explores the use of evidence-based management for effective planning and decision-making by today's healthcare managers. Concepts and theories from the general management literature will be identified for dealing with the emerging issues of the healthcare industry relating to the delivery of effective, patient-centered care. Field-based examples will be used to illustrate how managers use available information and data to improve the quality of organizational decisions and processes to achieve fiscal sustainability. 

Quality Assessment and Outcome in Healthcare HSA 6759
This course examines the concept of quality and quantity assessment from multiple perspectives: patients, healthcare providers, payers, standard setting organization and healthcare policymakers.

Admissions Requirements

To be eligible for admission to our online Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management, you must:

  • Be in good standing with all previously attended colleges and universities.
  • Have a four-year bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Have a grade point average of 3.0 or better based on upper-division coursework.

Admissions Documents

The following must be submitted:

  • Official transcripts from all previously attended universities. A copy of the diploma is needed if the degree is not posted on the transcript.
  • Statement of purpose describing your professional goals and reasons for pursuing this degree at FIU (at least 500 words in length).
  • Current and detailed résumé

If you are an international student living outside the U.S., you do not need an F-1 student visa to complete the program. You may complete the program completely online in your home country.

(Note: Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the program)

Submitting an Application

Complete the online application under Graduate Certificate Programs. On the Academic Information page of the online application form, select:

  • "Certificate" from the degree level drop-down menu
  • "Healthcare Management" from the “major” drop-down menu listing all FIU certificate programs
  • "Healthcare Management Online" as the concentration

If you are currently enrolled in a graduate program at FIU:

  • Please, use the exact first and last name you used for your graduate program application to avoid creation of a duplicate panther ID.
  • The application fee will be waived. Please, select the option to mail the payment for us to process the waiver.

Tuition & Aid

Financial Aid Information

Tuition for the online Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Program for the 2014-2015 year is $21,390. 

Students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Managment are not eligible to receive federal financial aid. Students have the option of applying for a Private/Alternative Loan to help cover up to 100 percent of the cost of the program.

Private Student Loans are non-federal educational loans available from a variety of national lending institutions. A credit check is required and some students may need to apply with a credit worthy cosigner to increase the likelihood of being approved and receiving the best pricing and terms.

Florida International University is pleased to provide you the following Private Student Loan Chart which provides a list of all lenders that FIU students have used in the past five years that are currently offering private student loan products. This list is in no way exclusive or exhaustive of all existing lenders. The Chapman Financial Aid Office will honor request to certify private student loan that do not appear on this list.
