1. Submit your application

Submit your application by choosing graduate or undergraduate.


2. Gather documents on English proficiency.

English language proficiency test score (TOEFL or IELTS):
The TOEFL or IELTS is required of all applicants who graduated from non-English countries. These tests are given worldwide. There is a fee for the examination. A minimum score is required for all graduate programs and are as follows:

  • IELTS: 6.5
  • TOEFL (Institution code: 5206)
  • Paper-based: 550
  • Internet-based (iBT): 80

For graduate students, the following exceptions apply: Applicants who hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from English-speaking countries. You can find a complete list of TOEFL-exempt countries here http://gradschool.fiu.edu/toefl-exempt-countries/.

For undergraduate students, the following exceptions apply: (1) Applicants who completed 4 years of high school in the United States or other English-speaking countries. (2) Applicants who hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from an institution within the United States or other English-speaking countries. Visit http://gradschool.fiu.edu/toefl-exempt-countries/ to see a list of TOEFL exempt countries.


3. Submit official sealed transcripts.

For graduate students, you must include course-by-course evaluation and translation. If the official transcript is not in English, a second copy of the transcript must be requested from previously attended institution(s) for translation by a NACES certified translation agency. Both the official translation with course-by-course evaluation and the original official transcripts must be submitted.

For undergraduate students, you must submit official high school transcripts in sealed envelope (with course-by-course evaluation and translation) If the official transcript is not in English, a second copy of the transcript must be requested from previously attended institution(s) for translation by a certified translation agency. Both the official translation and the original official transcripts must be submitted. SAT/ACT scores should also be submitted to FIU visit College Board or call (866) 756-7346 (school code 5206). To have ACT scores submitted, visit ACT.org or call (319) 337-1313 (school code 0776).


4. Submit proof of degree or diploma.

If you are a transfer student, you will also need the following:

  • Course-by-course evaluation of transcripts conducted by a NACES.org approved office. Official evaluation must be forwarded directly to FIU from the evaluation service.
  • One exception: Chinese language transcripts from Tianjin University of Commerce will be evaluated by FIU staff for admission to the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management.
  • If you have less than 60 transferable credits, you must also submit your high school transcripts (with translation if needed) and SAT and/or ACT scores.

Most scholarship options for international students can be found through one of the following online databases. You may also contact your academic department for possible scholarship and fellowship options.

Fastweb

Please note that   Fastweb.com  does not allow international students or those who live in U.S. territories, who do not have a U.S. address to register on its site.

However, if you are interested in studying in the U.S. as an international student, you will be able to create a Fastweb profile by providing the address of the school in the U.S. you are interested in attending in the address field of registration. If you have not taken the PSAT, SAT or ACT, you can leave those fields blank. They are not necessary to complete your profile.

Translation Services

Applicants with foreign educational credentials in a language other than English must provide a translation from a recognized translation agency or official translator. The Graduate Admissions Office, as part of the admissions process, evaluates foreign credentials internally at no cost to the applicant.
