FIU’s fully online Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction is awarded best online program for 2019.

In an age where schools are advancing curriculum with well-rounded STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) education, inclusive learning and digital literacy, there is a need for talented instructors who know how to make learning engaging and fun. Graduates of Florida International University’s fully online master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction are filling this need. What’s more, the degree recently received national recognition from OnlineMasters.com that places it in the top 25 in the nation for “The Best Online Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction Programs” for 2019.

“We are very excited to receive this recognition for our exceptional program,” said Flavia Iuspa, Ph.D., program director. “Our students need to be prepared to meet the demands of today’s diverse classroom and we’re proud to graduate leaders who can drive innovation for students.”

The recognition from OnlineMasters.com represents an analysis that took more than 93 hours of research. Every online master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction in the U.S. was analyzed to identify the top 50 of the best programs. The program analysis considered academic quality, student success and affordability.

At a time when new leadership in the governor’s office means new changes for Florida schools’ curriculum, FIU’s master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction offers students advanced training to work with students from diverse backgrounds. In specific, the program is designed to teach students how to meet the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse learners. In just 12 months, students in the master’s degree program learn to address real-world experiences. Coursework is based on ongoing, local research within one of the most diverse cities in the world: Miami.

In addition, the degree features highly respected faculty members who have helped pioneer literacy programs for decades. Their work ensures quality education through expert instruction and practical application, said Iuspa, who explained that the degree provides students with a strong foundation, a keen understanding of the trends and issues in curriculum development and instruction, along with research-based methods to improve student achievement.

“As our state shifts from Common Core and high-stakes testing, there is an opportunity to create curriculum that is more reflective of our urban communities,” said Iuspa. “Our graduates are given the tools to make a great impact on how students learn with a program that is one of the best in the country.”
