FIU Online courses—while self-paced and 100% online—are
led by subject-matter experts, who guide, challenge, and help apply the course concepts to real-world, on- the-job situations.
Courses are designed to accommodate the schedules of busy professionals, so they are available around the clock and completely asynchronous. Students can determine their own pace once the course begins—there is no appointed time or day they must be online.
Courses are organized by weekly modules along with a suggested schedule, enabling learners to avoid unnecessary interruptions to life’s more meaningful demands.

The new Interactive Learning Arena (ILA) is designed to blur the lines between face-to-face and online learning and events. The ILA allows FIU's global online students to experience on-campus programming like never before. Home to FIU's flexible Online LIVE learning modality, this 3,000+ square feet turn-key live-streaming venue is also available for corporate event rentals.
The Miami Corporate Residency @ FIU program is a structured collaboration program between FIU and select corporate partners. This high-touch program cultivates deep synergies between FIU's world-class talent, and the partner's industry-leading technical expertise with the goal of advancing business objectives and bridging strategic high-tech skills gaps.

Our Commitment to Excellence
FIU Online is committed to finding new, innovative ways to lift barriers and increase access to quality education. In 2016, FIU Online developed the Affordability Counts program, an initiative aimed at reducing the cost of textbooks and materials to less than $60 per course. Through the program, student savings is nearly $79 per course, and the average spend for materials in Affordability Counts certified courses is $21. Piloted at FIU, the Affordability Counts initiative was adopted statewide and is available for use by any state university in Florida for all courses at public higher education institutions.
FIU Online partners with Quality Matters to help ensure online and blended courses provide nationally recognized standards in quality assurance and student learning. Quality Matters’ comprehensive faculty-centered, peer-review system helps improve and certify online courses through an exhaustive process of examination that analyzes best-practices, considers benchmarking rubrics based on a review of current literature, and performs broad research to gauge each course’s features. FIU Online has more QM-certified courses than any other university in the nation.
FIU has been recognized as an institution with “highest research activity,” or R1 category, since 2015. This classification represents the highest level of research activity for doctorate-granting universities in the U.S. Less than 3 percent of universities, from a list of more than 4,500 universities, are classified as R1. FIU has continued to expand in all key indicator areas including its focus on research development expenditures, science and engineering research, as well as research doctoral conferrals in humanities, social science, STEM, and other fields.
