Overview

The health and fitness marketing certificate is open to students who are currently enrolled at FIU in a bachelor’s degree program. This certificate is designed to enhance a student’s knowledge of how marketing principles, practices, and strategies can be applied to the many that exist in the areas of health, fitness, wellness, nutrition, coaching, etc.  Since these industries all impact lifestyle changes, there is particular emphasis added managing mindsets through the behavior change models.

Why Apply?

Health and Fitness Marketing is unique in that the focus is primarily on managing mindsets and influencing behavior change in a manner that provides long-term benefits to the individuals themselves and society (and the economy) as a whole.   It is appropriate for students in a variety of careers, for example:

• the promotion of health services, dietetics and nutrition, and long-term behavioral health change;

• the marketing of fitness, exercise, physical training, etc.

• building participation in sports programs, fitness facilities, parks and recreation programs, summer camps, etc.

• advocacy for educational system fitness programs and school, district, regional, and national levels;

• health and fitness promotion from a public health and/or nursing perspective;

• company and organizational health and fitness for human resource managers.

Courses

 

REQUIREMENTS (18 credits): A student may acquire the Certificate in Health and Fitness Marketing by fulfilling the following requirements:

  1. Core Requirements

    MAR 3023 Marketing Management (Fall, Spring, Summer)
    MAR 4503 Consumer Behavior (Fall, Spring, Summer)
    MAR 4712 Health and Fitness Marketing (Fall, Spring)
    MAR 4711 Sports Marketing and Sponsorship (Fall, Spring)
  2. Choose two (2) of the following:
    MAR 4400 Personal Selling (Fall, Spring, Summer)
    MAR 4233 Social Media & E-Marketing Design (Fall, Spring)
    MAR 4323 Integrated Marketing Communications (Fall Spring, Summer)
    MAR 4941 Health and/or Fitness Marketing Internship

 

 

Requirements

To earn the certificate in health and fitness marketing, students must complete six courses (18 credit hours) with a minimum GPA of 2.75 and no individual course grade of “C” or below

Application Process:

You can find the Application for admission online at FIU Marketing Certificates. You will also need to complete an application for the Registrars office.  Once submitted and reviewed, you should be able to see the certificate listed on your Transcripts in you’re My.FIU.edu account.  Upon successful completion of courses and graduation, a certificate will be mailed to the address on file.

Students enrolled in a fully online bachelor’s degree program at FIU will not be charged many of the fees applicable to on-campus students, saving fully online student hundreds of dollars per semester. Please note fully online students do not have free access to FIU’s on-campus resources such as: computer labs, sporting events, recreational facilities, parking, etc.
