We welcome applications for admission from current or veteran service members and hope to assist you in applying for undergraduate admission to Florida International University. Below you will find a list of frequently asked questions about applying to the University as a veteran.

Am I a freshman?
You are considered a freshman if you are still a high school student or if you have not enrolled in any college courses after graduating from high school. Please provide:

Do I need to take the ACT or SAT?
Yes, if you are a freshman, you will need to submit an ACT or SAT test score and a final high school transcript (or GED test score)

Am I a transfer student?
You are considered a transfer student if you have previously enrolled in any course for college credit after graduating from high school. If you are a high school student and have earned AP credit, you are still considered a freshman. Please provide:

Do I receive credit for military training?
FIU can award academic credit for military training. The type and amount of credit that can be granted depend on the veteran’s service record. These credits typically count toward electives. If you are interested in receiving credit for military training, please contact the FIU Veteran and Military Affairs office.

Do I need to take the ACT or SAT?

Do I need to submit the application fee?
If you are an active duty United States military service member currently deployed overseas, you do need to pay the application fee. FIU Veterans Office will waive your $200 tuition deposit once you have been admitted to FIU.

How will my application be reviewed?
Admission for freshmen and transfer students is based on an overall assessment of primary and secondary review factors.

How do I apply for admission?
You may apply for admission online.

Do I have to submit my Social Security Number?
Yes, The Florida Legislature has imposed obligations on state agencies regarding their use, collection, and release of social security numbers. In accordance with Florida Statute 119.071(5)(a)(2). Florida International University (FIU) notifies individuals before collecting their social security number (SSN) and identifies the purpose for such collection. Read about FIU's SSN Compliance Policy.
